Packing Tips from Nationwide Van Lines

Everybody at one point or another needs to move. When deciding to move, you sometimes forget that you also need to start packing. If you're among thousands of people who have picked up and moved their family to a new home or a new community, you have fresh memories of some of the ups and downs or thrills or frustrations of moving.

There are several things you can do to make your moving experience easier and less stressfull. Read here for help to get your life, and your possessions, organized, packed and ready to do.

Be orgenized and make a list

Itemize Everything - You will save some time for later. Before you pack even one box, create a simple record keeping system to write the contents. You'll place a number on EVERY box you pack and list the contents on your list. Have a designated area for all your supplies. This is where you'll find your labels, marking pens, box tape, and other supplies. When describing the box contents, be specific -- "Kitchen" is better than "glassware ", and "pillows" rather than "bedroom".

Buy enough supplies

Dont be a fulled - buy allot of boxes, you will need them! probably more boxes than you think, and having enough boxes will make your life easier! Have about 10 boxes set aside to use for last minute items on moving day, such as bedding, clothing, and cleaning supplies. Make sure you buy strong tape and plenty of it. The last thing you want to do is to go run more tape in the midlle of packing. Use unprinted newsprint (newspaper can stain your items) or packing paper or bubble wrap to wrap and cushion household good. I will mention this again, buy plenty of supplies because you will need them. Worst case, you can always return what you did not use.

Wardrobe Boxes

These tall boxes are perfect for bulky, lightweight items such as comforters, pillows, and blankets, as well as clothes that need to remain hanging. Most Wardrobe boxes can contain about 30 hangers (depends what you are haging) but whats good about them is that you have the bottom to fill up with other items such as your pillows, blankets etc. Wardrobe boxes take allot of room, but if used correctly , they are very effective.

Don't make the boxes too heavy to lift. If you are packing for the moving company or for yourself, you want the boxes to survive the trip and not to brake. Heav boxes eventually will collapse and double up your work.

Get things organized as early as possible. A few days before your move, fill some sturdy handled shopping bags with bulky closet items such as shoes, sweaters, belts, and jeans. On moving day, fill the bottom of the wardrobe boxes with with your last minute packing items such as your sheets and pillows. Pack hanging items tightly so things won't move around and fall off of hangers. Finally, cover the shoulders of your clothes (a dry cleaning bag works well), then add a few purses or sweaters on top. You'll have fewer boxes, and closet items remain together. Also, the shopping bags will make it easier to retrieve your belongings from the bottoms of a tall wardrobe box.

Again - Organization!

Have a different color on the boxes for its designated room in the new house. This will make your life so much easier when it comes time to unload the truck and start orgenizing the new home. Example is use yellow for kitchen, orange for dining room, etc.

This will also help the movers will know where to put everything when they arrive at the destination. It's also helpful to post a big sign on the wall in the room where you want boxes stacked, ("Boxes here please") to keep them out of furniture and traffic areas.

We hope these few tips will help you make your packing experience easier. For more tips and guides you can visit our packing guide. Another great way to deal with the packing is having your movers do all the packing for you. Check out our Platinum packing service

Settling at your new home

Now that you have moved to your new town, there are many things you need to do in order to be truly settled. You need a new home, you need a new school for your need to make a new home!

Settling in can take a long time or a short time, depends on a few factors. Moving to a place where you have family or Friends definitely makes the relocation easier or memories of time spent nearby as a child? These factors make the transaction more comfortable and easier for all.

It does take time, but you will find your local grocery shop, new Friends, new favorite teacher, a nice post office man. It takes time but it will happened.

Relocating is stressful, its enough you have to deal with the actual moving process, what you need is a good moving company to help you make this as stress free as possible. Nationwide Van Lines is an east coast moving company that can help you make this as smooth as possible. Remember, just because you have a moving company it does not mean you do not have to be responsible. Watch the movers, update them on changes and most important - be there to supervise the move!

There are some things you have to realize that will happen. When moving understand that some uncomfortable situations may occur. Take these points in to consideration :

* You will have to push yourself over the normal comfort level. You may have to sleep on a blowup mattress for a few days, have to deal with no TV, have to buy a couple of dishes to get through the days before delivery.

* A great way to settle in is to find Friends and interests. Find a local religious place of your faith, a nice local diner, local mall, or join a club!

* It is always good to bake ( or buy ) a box of cookies and go to your neighbors and introduce may be invited for dinner and meat your first new Friend!

Moving can be the most stressful experience you can go through, but you can make it better. Take things in perspective and try to look for the good in all and not the bad.

Eliminate Stress While Moving With Children

The experience of moving in itself is already a stressful ordeal. But add to that moving with children, then you have a living nightmare right in front of you. Children when they are already attached and familiar to their surroundings find it difficult to let go. They have their normal playgrounds and pals who they already keep a close bond with. So for parents, moving with children normally is a more stressful and nerve-racking episode. So if you are a parent and are moving with children to a new place, maybe these pointers may help eliminate stress on your part.

Prepare them mentally about leaving the old house and apartment

For children, it is a sad experience to leave a house, particularly one where they grew up in. You need to prepare them mentally about the move by talking to them about how great the new house will be and how they will get to meet new friends in the new place you are heading to. It is also advantageous to take pictures of the old house along with the kids so they can have memories of their old residence. Remember, unless they are mentally prepared, children tend to whine and nag all throughout the moving process. So preparing them mentally in a way also eliminates stress on your part.

Talking is very importand, have a talk with your children about the move. Show them where you are moving to, share to pro's and con's about the new enviroment.

To eliminate stress for you as a parent about moving, you should talk to your children about the move. When it comes to moving to another place with children, do not surprise them out of the blue. As much as possible, tell your children all the basic details about the move. Let them know several weeks before the move that the entire family is moving to another place. By having that talk with kids, you already get to eliminate stress.

Packing process and how to deal with children

An important part of the moving process is the packing of the household materials that you will bring with you to the new house or apartment. If you have not prepared your children for the moving and you are in the packing phase, then expect a lot of trouble. Once you get to start packing, inform your kids beforehand what their responsibilities are. To lessen their anxiety about the move and eliminate stress on your part, have them set aside thethings that can be carried in a bag like their toys and security blanket. In this way, the children can still have access to these things they are really attached to when you are on your way to the new house or apartment. This gives them a sense of security during the moving process.

Celebrate Your Arrival in Your New House or Apartment

Once you have arrived in your new house or apartment, celebrate with your children. The celebration itself eliminates stress. You can celebrate simply by buying a cake from the local bakery or by ordering pizza.

Moving with children is never as easy as moving to a new house on your own. Hopefully these guidelines can help you eliminate stress when you move to a new home.

Everybody knows that moving with children to a new home may be a stressful ordeal. You may want to read these guidelines on how to eliminate stressduring the moving process with children.

3 Ways to Reduce Stress When Moving

Research shows that moving is one of the five most stressful events the average person faces. Although there is no such thing as a stress-free move, you can make the experience better with some assistance.

Get Help Moving

By "help moving" we don't mean your brother-in-law or that body-building friend from work. More people often hinder the move as everyone gets in the way. One truck can be loaded best by two people, maybe three if well-coordinated.

Hiring movers means your relocation will proceed more quickly. Loading boxes may not seem like much of a skill until you see professional movers do it. A good team can have you loaded in a fraction of the time you can do it yourself.

Stick with the big moving companies, not the "two guys with a truck and a six-pack" crowd in the classifieds. Although you may find a gem in the latter group, it's better to go with an experienced and insured organization.

Moving companies offer packing service which can be a mixed blessing. The biggest drawback is that you don't reduce clutter. It's amazing how many things that you've owned for years just aren't worth sticking in a box. By self-packing, a lot of the clutter ends up in the charity bin or the trash bin.

For Long Moves Use an Auto Transport Service

While looking for home movers, also consider car shipping.

An auto transport service will load your car onto a truck and ship it anywhere you might be bound. You don't have the stress of a cross-country drive. Instead you take a leisurely plane ride to your destination and everything is waiting for you when you arrive.

Stick with an auto transport company that provides door-to-door service rather than terminal service. Terminal service means your car is picked up then languishes in a storage yard until a truck is found heading in the right direction. During this time you have no use of the vehicle and no idea when it will arrive. Door-to-door service means the car is out of your hands for a shorter time.

Take a Vacation During the Move

Using movers and auto transport means your time is free to handle other details of the move like getting utilities hooked up and exploring your new neighborhood. There is no end to all the tasks associated with relocation.

If you are moving far away, there will be a gap of a couple of days between your rapid arrival by plane and your furniture and car's arrival by truck. Use this opportunity to check into a hotel and treat your family to an unexpected break.

Of course, these steps are going to make the move a bit more expensive than doing it all yourself. However your time is valuable. If you look at the hours you save, not to mention the gray hairs you avoid, you'll find it's well worth the price.

Nationwide Van Lines will do everything in its power to provide you with an honest, and reliable moving service.

Nationwide Van Lines
Another Great Review From Nationwide Van Lines :

This was my first out-of-state move and I selected Nationwide through
Rick Vera was my Relocation Consultant and he made it stress free. If I had any questions, he and the Nationwide staff were always there to calm my anxiety. My original delivery date was to be the day after my move, but they notified me that it could be the same day. GREAT! The drivers arrived 4 hours after I did. Even though they had to deal with a lot of stairs, they were professional, hardworking, friendly and were extra careful handling the sentimental (old!) furniture pieces. Great experience with Nationwide. I recommend them to anyone thinking of relocating. Fair price, great staff!

Nationwide Van Lines - Your East Coast Mover

Nationwide Van Lines is a Full Service Moving company that specializes in East Coast Relocations. We perform Out-of-State moves only within the 17 East Coast States.

Why does Nationwide perform only East Coast moves?
As a long distance mover, Nationwide Van Lines originally assisted all 48 continental states. We believe Quality Service can only be achieved by handling every move 100%. No Middle Man, No Second or Third parties & No delivering agents.

Our trucks are always available traveling up and down the
This helps with well coordinated dispatch as well as customer who are in need of a last minute move!

In our industry, it is impossible for a moving company to operate in all 48 states and not use a Second and/or Third party delivering agent. In addition, many Moving Companies tend to broker out moves to other companies and/or carriers because of the large volume of business. Carriers & Delivering Agents tend to use large trucks that assist more than one Moving Company in the industry at one time. A Carrier consolidates many shipments on their truck that are within their route. From past experiences, this can only cause unnecessary handling to your furniture, increase the chance for missing items and may cause delivery delays.
